Acidity Symptoms

Acidity is a term which we can know by the set of symptoms due to excessive production of hydrochloric acid by the gastric glands present in the stomach. The stomach normally secretes hydrochloric acid which is necessary for the breakdown and digestion of food we eat. Furthermore, acidity causes symptoms like dyspepsia, heartburn, gastric inflammation and ulcers in the stomach.

Heartburn – It is an intense burning pain which travels from your stomach to your abdomen or chest is well known as heartburn. Moreover, if you suffer from acidity it is the most common symptom. The pain even reaches your throat. In spite of the name, heartburn doesn’t affect your heart in any way..

Chest pain – Chest pain occurs due to the stomach acid splashes into the esophagus, which is a classic acid reflux symptom. But it is true that the pain can last longer and can be more intense than expected. Ignoring chest pain is difficult as it gets worse when you do a particular exercise or exert yourself.

Regurgitation- This is the most common symptom seen in patients experiencing acid reflux. In this, there is a sensation of hydrochloric acid which backs up into your mouth or even to your throat. It spoils the taste of your mouth and you may experience a wet burp. Also, sometimes you may even vomit some contents present in your stomach.

Pain worsens when you take rest – The acid which was supposed to stay in your stomach escapes into your esophagus whenever you lie down or bend over, which is the main cause of your heartburn.

Some other common symptoms of acidity include:

  • Nausea
  • Restlessness
  • Intense pain after a meal – Whenever you consume a big meal, you may experience a pain, which means that the stomach is overloaded and the contents have to move in the upward direction.
  • Inflammation
  • Gastric Ulcers
